This is heavily influenced by your age, general driving abilities and available time for lessons. As per official insights, the typical individual takes around 45 hours with an instructor in addition to 22 independent hours to fully establish skills and develop habits needed to drive with confidence. In most cases, learning to drive will be easier for those who have previously driven a bicycle, moped, or similar vehicle. However, our friendly and knowledgeable instructors have been trained to teach those with less experience as well!
In my experience, there is typically no significant difference in the number of lessons that anxious students require compared to those who are relatively self-assured. Although new students will overcome this obstacle throughout the course, it is normal for them to believe that they are more anxious than other students. Remember, learning to drive with Andy School of Motoring is supposed to be fun as well :)!
Most learners naturally become tired and less attentive after 1.5 to 2 hours of driving instruction, but this is highly dependent on individual preferences. Therefore, it is recommended not to exceed 2 hours of lessons at a time or to have a break in-between. It is essential to continue taking driving lessons on a regular basis in order to maintain the effectiveness of your learning.
Yes, but insurance for a private vehicle driver with a provisional license typically costs more than a full course of driving lessons with a DVSA-approved instructor! Aside from that, friends and family supervisors aren’t trained to spot every driving error, which can become a habit and make it hard to fix later. Additionally, isn’t it safer to attend lessons in a dual-controlled vehicle?
In most cases, foreign license holders from countries listed on the DVLA website are permitted to drive in the United Kingdom for a period of one year. However, in order to continue driving as a “full license holder,” they must pass a test prior to this time. To apply for the test non-uk license holders need a provisional license similarly as UK candidates, however, don’t need to show “L”- plates and don’t need to drive under supervision inside the first year of UK residence. We highly recommend taking driving lessons with an expert – the UK driving test is extremely difficult and frequently underestimated, even for experienced drivers.
