Pass Plus is a condensed driving course, spanning six hours, aimed at enhancing the skills and safety of newly licenced drivers.
This course can be taken at any point after you’ve completed your practical and theory driving tests. However, it’s most beneficial during your first year of driving, as statistics show that most road accidents happen within the first 12 months of obtaining a licence.
The course is divided into six modules, each focusing on different aspects of everyday driving. These modules are:
Since urban driving is common, this module helps improve your observation skills and awareness. You'll learn to navigate complex junctions, underpasses, and designated lanes for trams, buses, and cyclists.
This module is useful if you haven't driven in challenging weather conditions before. It covers techniques for handling heavy rain, snow, ice, fog, and bright sunlight, including how to prevent and manage skidding and the impact of adverse weather on stopping distances.
Rural driving involves unique risks, such as blind corners, animals on the road, and slow-moving vehicles. This module teaches safe passing strategies and how to handle sharp bends, encounters with horse riders, cyclists, farm machinery, and road debris.
If you have little experience driving at night, this module will help build your confidence. It covers the correct use of headlights, adjusting to varying light conditions, managing glare from oncoming vehicles, and assessing speed and distance in low light.
This module enhances your understanding of dual carriageways, covering safe entry and exit via slip roads, overtaking, maintaining proper lane discipline, and keeping a safe following distance.
Even though learners can now have motorway lessons with an instructor, you might still find them daunting. This module teaches safe driving speeds under different conditions, coping with motorway fatigue, managing breakdowns, proper lane usage, and interpreting road signs.
While some insurance providers offer discounts for drivers with a Pass Plus certificate, this is increasingly rare, so it shouldn’t be viewed primarily as a way to lower insurance costs. However, Pass Plus is valuable if you feel uncertain about your driving skills after passing your test and wish to gain additional experience.
